Buttock Augmentation

Butt augmentation is a procedure that enhances the size and appearance of one’s gluteal area, providing you with an uplifted and shapelier buttock profile.

For many, having a butt that is disproportionate to the rest of their body can negatively affect their confidence. Increasing the volume and reshaping the buttocks creates better definition that can enhance your appearance. An increasingly popular procedure worldwide, as having shapely buttocks is often seen as a symbol of femininity and sensuality. Most commonly this is done by transferring fat from your abdomen to your buttocks by a procedure called fat grafting. (popularly referred to as the Brazilian butt lift).

What to Expect From Buttock Augmentation

During your consultation, we will evaluate your natural body type and take a close look at the underlying bone structure and muscle anatomy. Buttock enhancement surgeries are highly individualized procedures. We will discuss the best options to achieve your butt enhancement goals.

Am I a Candidate for a Buttock Augmentation?

  • Do you feel that your buttocks are too small for your body frame and you want a more balanced look?
  • Is your buttock shape too flat or square and you would like increased fullness, roundness and projection of your butt or buttocks?
  • Is your butt asymmetrical or do clothes and swimwear not fit properly on your figure?
  • Are you healthy, nonsmoker without medical conditions that impair healing or increase risk of surgery and have a positive outlook and realistic goals for what buttock augmentation surgery can accomplish?

How can buttock augmentation help?

Increase Your Butt Fullness
When the gluteal area lacks fullness, it can appear undefined, flat and attractive. Butt augmentation with implants or fat transfer can help you achieve a fuller backside, by improving the contour, size and shape of the buttocks. For many women, this helps fill out pants, skirts, dresses, swimsuits, and lingerie better and opens a wider range of clothing to wear.

Restore Balance to Your Figure
A small gluteal area may be preventing you from having the attractive curves you desire. For some, curves are an important aspect of creating a proportionate figure. Your buttocks may lack definition in comparison to the rest of your body. A buttock lift improves the tone of the underlying tissue in the buttocks.

Enhance Your Confidence
For many women, achieving sensual curves helps them feel more attractive. Feeling more comfortable with your body can boost your confidence to levels you haven’t seen before. Having better self-esteem will influence your daily life, making you more assertive and put you back in the driver’s seat. Many women find that their newfound confidence dramatically affects their success in other areas of their lives.

Butt Augmentation Options

Fat Transfer (Brazilian Butt Lift)

  • Liposuction is used to remove excess fatty tissue from troublesome areas of the body such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, and back

  • The fat is injected into the buttocks through three small incisions using a syringe attached to a cannula
  • The fat is grafted in multiple layers to tailor the shape of the buttocks
  • The multi-layer technique helps ensure a smooth deposit of fat
  • All incisions are closed
  • A compression garment is used in the weeks following your surgery to facilitate healing and to help ensure good results

Butt Implants

  • An incision is created in the natural buttock crease
  • A pocket is created below the gluteal muscle but above the pelvic bone
  • A soft, silicone implant is placed into the pocket
  • The incisions are closed
  • A compression garment is worn in the weeks following your surgery to facilitate healing and help ensure good results

The Buttock Augmentation Process

Once you fill out the online questionnaire, you will be contacted to confirm an appointment for a one-on-one consultation with the surgeon. You may also provide photos through our HIPAA compliant system and during your visit your surgeon can provide a detailed evaluation and plan for your procedure.

This appointment also includes an analysis of your health history, any medications you are taking, and what you desire to achieve with the procedure. Please have all of this information with you when you come to your appointment. All of which can be submitted electronically through our HIPAA compliant patient portal.

The surgeon will discuss the techniques that will best provide you with the results you desire and answer any questions you may have. The size, shape and contours will be discussed in detail based on the look you desire. When augmentation using fat is chosen, liposuction becomes a key component of the procedure to obtain the fat. Sites of liposuction for fat harvesting are discussed at this time as well.

Preoperative Instructions

Your surgeon will review in detail all of the information you need to know prior to surgery.

Generally, patients should avoid nicotine products six weeks before surgery and stop taking anti-inflammatory medication (e.g., aspirin and ibuprofen) for at least two weeks before surgery. Some vitamins and supplements may also cause problems during or after surgery, so it is best to avoid them or to talk to your surgeon about potential side effects.

You may be asked to bathe using an antibacterial soap before your procedure.

Eating and drinking restrictions include:

  • 8 hours before the procedure – stop eating heavy meals or foods, such as meat, fried foods, or fatty foods.
  • 6 hours before the procedure – stop eating light meals or foods, such as toast or cereal.
  • 6 hours before the procedure – stop drinking milk or drinks that contain milk.
  • 2 hours before the procedure – stop drinking clear liquids.

Be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home and care for you for the first 48 hours after your procedure.

During the Procedure

Buttock augmentation is performed with general anesthesia, in a surgery center, and takes approximately two to three hours to complete. An IV will be inserted into one of your veins. Based on the techniques agreed upon during your consultation, the surgeon will place the incisions as described above. Incisions are closed with absorbable sutures and covered with surgical tape. In some cases drains are used.

After surgery, your blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate, and blood oxygen level will be monitored until you leave the surgical center. You may continue to receive fluids and pain medicines through an IV.

You will have to wear compression stockings to help prevent blood clots and reduce swelling in your lower legs. You will be advised to wear a bodysuit with moderate compression to aid with swelling and to keep you comfortable. Swelling will typically subside after about three weeks but may last as long as 6 months. Pressure on the gluteal area is prohibited for 8 weeks. You will be provided with techniques to help with sitting by using a pillow placed under thighs.

Expect pain, bruising, and tenderness for which you will be provided pain medications as needed.

For the first few days after surgery you will need to get plenty of rest. Most patients are able to return to work in two weeks and resume regular exercise after eight weeks.

Your surgeon will give you more detailed information about what you can expect during your recovery.

Butt Augmentation FAQs

Q. What will my recovery be like following butt augmentation?

A: You will experience some bruising, swelling, and redness after the procedure. Direct pressure cannot be applied to the buttocks for eight weeks. For the first two weeks following your procedure, you should avoid sitting or laying on your back at all times. After this time, you may attempt a sitting position using a pillow to take pressure off the buttocks.

Most major swelling should subside after three months. By this time, you should be able to resume your normal activities, including sitting and exercise, but only with surgeon approval.

Q. Is butt augmentation painful?

A: General anesthesia is used during butt augmentation surgery for a pain-free procedure. You may feel mild discomfort following your procedure. The added weight to the buttocks takes some time getting used to for some patients. All associated discomfort is controlled using oral pain medication prescribed by your doctor.

Q. Will my procedure result in scars?

A: Mild scarring is possible as a result of butt augmentation. Scarring is common at the site of liposuction and the injection site for fat transfer. A scar may develop in the buttock crease after an implant procedure. Great care is taken to place all incisions in discrete locations that can easily be hidden using clothing, bathing suits, and underwear.

Q. Is fat transfer permanent?

A: In the first year following fat transfer, you may lose some of the initial volume as the body absorbs some of the transferred fat. The fat that remains is permanent and will provide you with long-lasting results.
